How do I create a table with border and grid lines in Moodle?

 This refers to Moodle 4.5 from August 2025 onwards

Creating a table in the TinyMCE text editor

Inserting a table in a Label or Page is simple and includes options to add a border and grid lines. 

1. To create a table, click ‘Insert' and select 'Table’. Alternatively, select the 'Table' tab in the text editor toolbar.

2. Hover over the blue squares to select the total number of rows and columns for your table. Clicking anywhere on the table will launch an additional floating toolbar.

In this floating toolbar you can,

·       Access the Table properties. This enables you to edit the width and height, adjust cell spacing, add cell padding, change the border width, and set the alignment.Ticking the box next to ‘Show caption’ will allow you to add a caption to your table.

In the ‘Advanced’ section of the Table properties, you also have the option to alter the border style, border colour and background colour.

Other options on the floating toolbar include,

·       Delete the table

·       Insert a row before

·       Insert row after

·       Delete row

·       Insert a column before

·       Insert column after

·   Delete column

3. Give the table a title and add headers to your rows and/or columns.
