How to copy and paste text from Word, and in Firefox

This refers to Moodle 4.5 from August 2025 onwards

Copy and pasting in Firefox

The menu on the right-hand mouse button for Copy, Cut and Paste doesn't work in Firefox due to browser security settings, so you need to use keyboard shortcuts.

These are

  • Ctrl+A to Select All,

  • Ctrl+X to Cut

  • Ctrl+C to Copy

  • Ctrl+V to Paste.

To paste from Word into Moodle using the TinyMCE Text Editor (TinyMCE is the default editor for Moodle 4.5)

The TinyMCE editor has a "smart paste" feature which will strip out incompatible formatting codes, so simply copy from your Word or other document and paste into Moodle using the right mouse button menu.

If you need to simplify the formatting, select the text you need to simplify and click the 'Clear formatting' button (see below).

The clear formatting button on the TinyMCE editor.

It is always best to do as much formatting as possible in Moodle rather than beforehand in Word or other programs.
